伯茲·史蓋茲Boz Scaggs本名William Royce Scaggs，1944年出生在美國俄亥俄州Canton市，父親是一位推銷員。當舉家搬到德州達拉斯，他就讀St. Mark's School of Texas私校時，同學給他一個外號"Bosley"，後來就縮寫為"Boz"。在此校他12歲時，認識了Steve Miller，於1959年開始在Steve Miller的樂團裡擔任主唱。日後兩人一起去就讀威斯康辛大學麥迪遜分校(University of Wisconsin–Madison)時，都順便在其他樂團中當樂手。

離開大學後，Boz Scaggs去了倫敦參加樂團，又輾轉到瑞典做獨立歌手。1965年他首次發行了個人專輯，但銷量不佳。1967年回到美國後，他在Steve Miller Band樂團的首兩張專輯(1968)中擔任吉他手與主唱，然後又恢復成獨立歌手出唱片，但有時也擔任其他樂團的合音與吉他手。至2015年，Boz Scaggs總共發行了18張個人專輯。

1988年他創辦了舊金山的Sim's夜店，經營至2011年轉讓給他人。Boz Scaggs的第一段婚姻(1971~80)有兩個兒子，小兒子Osacr在21歲時(1998年)死於海洛因吸毒過量。目前他與第二任妻子(1992結婚)在北加州從事種植葡萄釀酒生意。

Lowdown選自Boz Scaggs的第7張專輯Silk Degrees「絲綢的水準」(1976年3月發行，下面照片即為該唱片封面)，由Boz Scaggs與鍵盤樂器手David Paich合寫。哥倫比亞唱片公司於1976年6月將此曲發行了單曲小唱片，最高到達告示牌Billboard單曲排行榜第三名，賣出了一百萬張而獲得金唱片，同時獲得1976年「最佳R&B節奏藍調歌曲」葛萊美獎。Boz Scaggs對此曲的成功感到非常意外，本以為此曲毫無機會能發行單曲。而Silk Degrees專輯最高到達專輯排行榜第二名。

＊歌詞的內容是自我反省，所以詞中的「你」其實指的是自己。
這首歌曾用在【尋找顧巴先生】Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977), 【索命黃道帶】Zodiac (2007), 【泡沫人生】Mood Indigo (2013), 【銀幕大角頭2：傳奇再續】Anchorman: The Legend Continues (2013)等電影中當插曲。
Boz Scaggs在1980的歌曲"Look What You've Done to Me"也用在電影【都市牛郎】Urban Cowboy (1980)中當插曲。

2014年Boz Scaggs (The Dukes of September樂團)在紐約市林肯表演藝術中心的演唱。2010年Boz Scaggs與老將歌手Donald Fagen(彈平台鋼琴者),Michael McDonald(彈電子琴白髮者)組成了The Dukes of September樂團，不過只從事現場演唱而沒有出專輯。此曲歌詞中的chick(對女人有點輕蔑的稱呼)已改成woman，樓下的演唱影片也如此–然而兩個在1970年代的演唱範例，依然用chick。

Donald Fagen與吉他手Jon Herington都是Steely Dan樂團成員，Michael McDonald於1974~75年也是Steely Dan成員。
